A rheometer for the investigation of structure formation in ferrofluids under magnetic field and shear flow

Abstract
Due to the possibility to change their physical properties, especially their viscosity, under magnetic fields, ferrofluids are a challenging subject for engineering, fundamental research and medicine. Experimental and theoretical studies have shown that modifications of the microstructure of ferrofluids in the presence of a magnetic field have significant influence on the magnetoviscous properties. To obtain information on the structure formation, a rheometer for Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) investigations of the behaviour of ferrofluids under the shear flow and the influence of a magnetic field strength was designed.
