Flows over bodies of revolution at moderate Hartmann numbers

Abstract
Linearised moderate Hartmann number flows of an electrically conducting incompressible fluid over a fixed axisymmetric body are considered. The flow is assumed unidirectional and perpendicular to the body axis a long way from the body, any solid walls being planar and parallel to the incoming flow. A uniform transverse constant magnetic field is imposed parallel to the axis of the body. Galerkin based finite element numerical solutions show that there is evidence for jet formation near the body surface and that the flow is strongly influenced by the body conductivity.
