Abstract
In terms of electromagnetic processing of materials the interactions of high magnetic fields with solidified structures are well known and applied for crystal orientation and phase transformation. In contrast, the influence of a low magnetic field on melts with a high content of paramagnetic ions is rarely investigated. Our research focuses on the interaction of melts and the magnetic gradient force, which is generated by a magnetic field gradient. The paper presents first experimental results, the changes in the material properties, which are associated with them, as well as a phenomenological appraisal of the interrelations. Furthermore, it considers the innovation potential of new possibilities of electromagnetic processing. Tables 2, Figs 5, Refs 10.
