Abstract
Distribution and structure formation of magnetic and nonmagnetic particles in the MAGIC (MAGnetic Intelligent Compound) fluid are simulated by using a particle method. Effects of volume fractions of magnetic particles and nonmagnetic abrasive particles on their distribution is examined. The magnetic particles form chain-like clusters in the field direction in case of low volume fraction, while fibrous or wall-like structure appears in case of high volume fraction. The nonmagnetic particles are also rearranged in the field direction. The microstructures formed by the magnetic and nonmagnetic particles are analyzed statistically. Figs 12, Refs 7.
