Assessment of the magnetic liquid surface deformation by the Soret effect

Abstract
The paper presents the experimental behaviour of five oil-based magnetic fluids with three different types of surfactants, when they are illuminated by a laser beam from a 650-nm laser diode. The strange behaviour in evidence is related to the missing of correlation between the optical property (reflection), known data of the magnetic fluids and the surface deformation under the light-induced Soret effect.
