Abstract
The dynamics of magnetic filaments under the action of dissipative torques is formulated in terms of the intrinsic variables of the curve -- curvature and tension. The algorithm for the solution of the equations for the intrinsic variables is described and it is shown that the obtained results coincide with the results obtained by the explicit solution of the dynamic equations for the coordinates of a filament. It is found that under the action of dissipative torques the crumpled state of the filament is formed at large values of the magnetoelastic number. The approach to dynamics in terms of the intrinsic variables is extended for the case of semi-flexible filaments in an active medium and numerical constants in the scaling laws are determined.
