Abstract
We study numerically the action of electromagnetic forces on inclusions contained in electrically conducting liquids. The process is used in metallurgy for MHD separation of molten metals from slag. Values of the purification factor for different process parameters have been obtained. The purification factor increases as grows the value of the magnetic field intensity for a fixed value of the electric current. It has been found that highly conducting particles are separated better than weakly conducting ones, with all other parameters being the same. After coagulation the large-scale particles are accumulated mainly in a small region of the MHD channel. Figs 5, Refs 5.
