Abstract
The influence of a quickly rotating magnetic field on the stability of rolls in a horizontal layer of an electrically conducting fluid with stress-free boundaries is studied using a multi-scale method. The dependence of the critical Prandtl number on the Hartmann number is determined. The Hartmann number increases the critical Prandtl number for some instabilities. Figs 3, Refs 10.
