Abstract
This paper presents a study on the magnetic force effect on the pendant drop profile of magnetic fluids under an applied magnetic field. The Young-Laplace equation is revised according to the normal stress balance principle and numerically solved using the secant method so as to predict the profile data. Results reveal that increasing the magnetic field gradient can lead to an enhanced contraction of the pendant drop neck. Such an effect could be further magnified by increasing the fluid saturation magnetization. Figs 3, Refs 9.
