Magnetic fluid volume between horizontal plates in the field of an electromagnetic coil

Abstract
In this work, the surface shape of a finite magnetic fluid volume between two horizontal plates is investigated in the magnetic field of an electromagnetic coil. Qualitatively different forms of the magnetic fluid can exist for the same applied current. Experimental results confirm the theoretical model and numerical simulations. Abrupt and hysteretic behaviours are observed when the applied magnetic field changes quasistatically. Tables 1, Figs 2, Refs 5.
