Abstract
The article is concerned with numerical modelling of the structure and intensity of electro-vortex flows in a model of the DC electric arc furnace in a steel casting process. Physical and mathematical models of the processes during the steel casting period in the furnace are provided. Numerical simulation results of electromagnetic and hydrodynamic parameters in the furnace with various bottom positions are presented. It is shown that the variations of the bottom position lead to the decrease of the vortex flow intensity and to shear stress on the fettle area. Figs 10, Refs 19.
