Electromagnetic stirring of the crystallizer melt in light alloy casting
B. I. Bondarev
Abstract
The electromagnetic mixing of light metals and alloys solidifying in a crystallizer ensures a ï¬ne-grained casting. Horizontal, circular, and vertical stirring gives high-quality castings with the required grain size. Electromagnetic stirring should be used to obtain castings with an equiaxial fine structure, especially in connection with alloys with a narrow interval of crystallization that are not prone to form primary crystals of intermetallic compounds. It can also be recommended for eliminating structural inhomogeneities when casting alloys with a broad interval of crystallization. Figs. 5, Refs 18.
