Hall phenomena in a plasma flow in a traveling magnetic field
A. P. Rashchepkin
Abstract
The effect of the anisotropic nature of the electrical conductivity on the electromag1letic processes in a plasma flow in a rectangular channel with insulating walls in an external traveling magnetic field is investigated. It is shown that as in a constant field, Hall voltages and currents of constant value arise, and, in addition, currents of multiple frequencies as well as other phenomena occur. An approximate expression is obtained for the induction in the plasma, on the basis of which the effect of the Hall parroneter on the value of the higher harmonics of the field, the Hall currents, and the voltages is investigated. It is also shown that by changing the magnitude and direction of the Hall currents in the channel using an external DC source, one can influence the degree of interaction of the plasma with the external traveling magnetic field. With the assumptions made the anisotropy of the plasma electrical conductivity has no effect on the energy conversion factor. It is found that the anisotropy of the electrical conductivity of the plasma leads to an equivalent reduction in the electrical conductivity and to a reduction in its interaction with the traveling magnetic field.
