Optimal relationship in an induction liquid-metal seal

Abstract
The optimal relationship between the power released in a liquid-metal plug when completely introduced under the pole of an electromagnetic system of an induction liquid-metal seal and the volume of the gap under the pole of the system is investigated. It is shown that the same value of the dimensionless quantity xb at which the volume of the gap and power released in it are in an optimal relationship corresponds to changes of the design parameters. The dimensionless quantity xb is determined by the frequency of the magnetizing current, conductivity of the material of the liquid-metal plug, and width of the pole of the system and is related by a simple relationship with the thickness of the ferromagnetic bushing on the shaft being sealed.
