Longitudinal edge effect during flow of a conducting fluid in a traveling magnetic field
E. A. Tropp
Abstract
The problem of the development of a flow and of the formation of a traveling magnetic field at the inlet to the working zone of a plane induction converter is solved by the singular perturbation method. The equations of motion are transformed to a form characteristic for the problem of the entry of a fluid into a constant uniform field. The distribution of the components of the magnetic field in the first approximation depend only on the average ve- locity. The terms of the asymptotic expansions, proportional to αlnα, where α is the ratio of the channel height to the length of the traveling wave, are determined from the condition of union of the local solution at the edges of the inductor with the external solution.
