Sensitivity relations for electromagnetic flowmeters with rectangular and circular channels

L. M. Korsunskii

Abstract
A qualitative evaluation is presented for the sensitivity of a flow transducer of electromagnetic type, and ways of improving this are considered. It is shown that a device with a circular channel can provide a substantial improvement only if the velocity in the channel is increased by reducing the cross section. One can obtain an improvement by 1-2 orders of magnitude if one uses a rectangular channel and a design in which the walls of the channel are poles of the magnet.
