Radial MHD bearing with a floating bushing
I. M. Al'-Nasan
- L. P. Terekhov
Abstract
The problem of lubricating a cylindrical MHD bearing of infinite length with a free-floating bushing is considered. The effect of inertial terms in the equations of motion and the induced magnetic field is not taken into consideration. The lubricant is incompressible, and the lubrication gap and thickness of the bushing are small in comparison with the shaft radius. A constant axial magnetic field and total radial current per unit length of the bearing are given. It is shown that with an increase of the applied field the supporting power of the bearing and angular speed of rotation of the bearing increase and the friction moment decreases.
