Charging of aerosol particles in a one-dimensional electrogasdynamical flow

Abstract
The system of equations governing the motion of ion and aerosol components in the field of a corona discharge between two plane-parallel electrodes and a one-dimensional, incompressible gas flow is solved by computer. Curves are obtained showing the variation in relative charge of the particles and in the electric-field strength in the discharge gap and their dependence on particle content and flow velocity. For special cases analytical dependencies are obtained that enable one to calculate the electric-field strength and the relative charge of the particles. Expressions are obtained for the volt-ampere characteristic, with account taken of the particle content, and for the over voltage of the corona for which cutoff of the corona current occurs.
