Research and design results in MHD machines with liquid-metal working fluids

Abstract
A survey is presented of researches carried out at the Efremov Scientific-Research Institute of Electrophysical Equipment on electromagnetic pumps and MHD generators with liquid-metal working bodies. Particular attention is given to dc conduction MHD machines and multiphase induction ones. Parameters are reported for some electromagnetic pumps for potassium, sodium, lithium, mercury, gallium, and alloys for operation up to 600°C, which have been tested for prolonged periods. Results are also presented from theoretical and laboratory studies on electromagnetic processes in these types of MHD machine.
