Abstract
The model EMKN-l electromagnetic dc conduction pump has been developed and built for casting titanium alloys. This pump develops a maximum pressure of 1.2·105 N/m2 and delivers liquid titanium at a rate of 6 kg/sec. The operating time is up to 15 sec long. The pump channel is made of grade SFT-l graphite-resin compound. In order to produce any specific kind of casting, the pump is made to perform according to a nomogram. The pressure developed by this pump ensures a better filling of the molds and prevents gas porosity as well as shrinkage defects in ingots.
