Calculation of the parameters of electromagnetic crystallizers for the casting of round ingots

Abstract
Known methods for calculating the electrodynamic forces arising in an ingot within an interaction between eddy currents and the magnetic field of an inductor are bound up with the need for labor-consuming calculations of improper integrals in which the functions under the integral sign are complex expressions containing complex functions of complex arguments. The present article proposes a method for calculating the components of the electromagnetic field, the active losses, and the inductance of the inductor- ingot system under consideration, as well as the maximal pressure in the ingot. The method is suitable for calculations where the radius of the ingot, reduced to dimensionless form, has a value greater than 40. The values determined are expressed in terms of compact formulas as functions of the regulated parameters and of three auxiliary functions. The above-mentioned functions are calculated in an electronic computer and illustrated on a curve. For a partial case, a comparison is made between the results of the calculation and experiment.
