An experimental stand for studies of MHD processes in electrotechnological devices
A. A. Kuchaev
Abstract
An experimental stand for studies of electrophysical and magnetohydrodynamic processes in channel-type induction furnaces for preparation of aluminium alloys and in electromagnetic devices for out-of-furnace refining has been developed. A basic part of the stand is an electromagnetic device which has been rigged with a cylindrical channel of and industrial furnace IAK-25. The azimuthal motion of metal in the cylindrical channel caused by a rotating magnetic field has been studied. Tests on the efficiency of refining Al−Zn alloys from oxygen as well as of the alloys A7, AK5M2 and AYa2 from hydrogen and Al2O3 have been carried out on the stand. The mechanical properties of Al alloys have been studied. It has been shown that the efficiency of refining Al alloys in the fields of centrifugal and electromagnetic forces is sufficiently high.
