On the formation of domain structures in flat layers of ferrocolloids
A. Yu. Zubarev
Abstract
We propose a model of the formation of cylindrical domain in flat layers of ferrocolloids located in a magnetic field perpendicular to them. The physical aspect of this model consists in the following. The formation of greatly expanded aggregates in ferrocolloids is stimulated by a magnetic field, while their length is limited by the walls of the slot. As the preserved aggregates grow, their dismagnetizing field also increases which may be a cause of stopping of domain growth. The equality of chemical potentials of solvent particles and molecules inside the domain on its external surface and at an infinite distance from it has been used to formulate the conditions of the formation of a cylindrical domain being in equilibrium with the surrounding medium.
