Abstract
An attempt to obtain a wider range of exact solutions for MHD flows in polar coordinates has been undertaken. A non-inductive approach is applied, i.e., the electric currents induced by the motion of a liquid in an external magnetic field are taken into account, but their contribution to the external field is ignored. Various forms of the equation of motion are presented referring to hydrodynamic and magnetic stream functions, some examples of flows both with linear and various helical streamlines are illustrated. Possible types of an external magnetic field providing an exact formulation of flat MHD problems in polar coordinates are defined. Some new problems such as suction and injection of liquids through a solid penetrable surface are formulated. Figs 2, Refs 8.
