Abstract
The rectangular duct with a flow channel insert (FCI) is a new concept to reduce the MHD pressure drop. However, the MHD pressure drop data measured experimentally are much higher than that from theory or modelling. Comparing the measured velocity contribution and the MHD pressure drop in the FCI flow with that in the S-duct flow, we find that there are the same characterizers of the secondary flow making the center velocity and the MHD pressure drop increase. The geometry sensitivity factors are attempted to be addressed as correction items to explain the higher MHD pressure drop, and the corrections are in good agreement with the experimental data.
