Abstract
An experimental way to compare macro-structural deformations of magneto-active composites, using X-ray-micro-computed tomography (Xμ-CT) [1] was investigated in this work. The main interest of the current study was an observation of the magnetic field dependence and hysteresis effects of different composite samples. The samples are composed of an elastomeric matrix and suspended carbonyl-iron-particles in concentrations of 10 wt.%, 20 wt.% and 30 wt.%. The composite has been created in the presence of a magnetic field driving structure formation of the particles. To investigate samples under the influence of an external uniform magnetic field, a Xμ-CT system with a sample holder coupled with two permanent magnets was used [2]. After characterization of the samples in their initial state, i.e. without external stimuli, they were subjected to the magnetic field and the structure was once more studied by Xμ-CT.
