Abstract
The synthesis of magnetorheological (MR) polishing fluid has been done indigenously as per the application requirements in a ball end magnetorheological finishing (BEMRF) process. The rheological characterization of the synthesized MR polishing fluid was carried out in a shear mode using a plate type magnetorheometer. Rheological behavior of the MR polishing fluid was observed at different states of magnetizing current. In the BEMRF process, a magnetically controlled ball end shape of MR polishing is formed at the tip of the tool, which is used for finishing. The smart controllable behavior of MR polishing fluid provides better control of finishing forces on abrasive particles and final surface finish by controlling the magnetizing current in the electromagnet coil.
