Mathematical modeling of casting processes in electromagnetic field

Abstract
Results of a simulation of MHD processes for casting and crystallization of aluminum wire are reported. The mathematical model is based on the solution of magnetohydrodynamic equations and on the VOF method. Testing of numerical techniques is performed with the flow in a crucible furnace. Good agreement with experimental data and calculations of other authors was obtained. A numerical simulation of the casting process and crystallization of aluminum wire is made. The physical processes, which influence the formation of the ingot, are analyzed. The dependence of the aluminum wire diameter on the strength and frequency of the inductor current is detected.
