Abstract
A matematical model relating the metal melt motion driven by an alternating magnetic field and the stressed state of solid insoluble oxide scab covering the melt surface is proposed. The stresses are represented by the stress tensor and are calculated numerically in a range of the alternating magnetic field diffusion parameters, for which oxide scab is highly likely formed. Based on the technological process, a stress level nesessary for scab rupture is approximated. The dependence of the Hartmann number needed for scab rupture on the alternating magnetic field diffusion parameter is obtained and may be used to analyze induction melting. Figs 4, Refs 26.
