Development of laminar MHD flow through channels with coaxial electrodes. 2. Flow with bending in a longitudinal and in a helical magnetic field

Abstract
Calculated results are shown pertaining to laminar flow with bending of the stream at the channel entrance, for the special case of a longitudinal magnetic field and for the general case of a helical magnetic field, the latter having a longitudinal component Bx as well as a tangential component Bϕ. It is demonstrated that the flow mode in this case depends not only on the encounter between viscous force and electrodynamic force but also on the "centrifugal" effect which occurs during bending. The initial segment of such a stream is longer than the initial segment of a straight stream in a tangential magnetic field, owing to the more complex nature of the forces acting on such a stream. Results are also shown for permeable electrodes (with injection or suction).
